about

This recording project was thought up as a way to approximate the feeling of a band just playing in a room even though I'm the only one in the room. I write and record at home a lot by myself and this is an idea that I've had for a while. Trying it out while quarantined during a pandemic seemed appropriate. I haven't played music with anyone all year.

My process of emulating the "band in a room" vibe was pretty simple. I recorded the two guitars and bass tracks directly into the computer through a DI, and then reamped all three of them on three separate amps simultenously while I tracked the drums. I was able to get all of the bleed from the microphones, the sympathetic vibrations of the snares, and the ambience of the room, etc., everything that happens when a band records live in one space.

The results are exactly what I had hoped for. It certainly does sound like a band in a room, even though it's a one man band. This was a fun project, and a cool method. I'll definitely do it again with future solo recording projects.
